Gardaí Arrest Man in His 50s After Woman Found Dead in Finglas Home

Hinata Kimura·October 26, 2026·3 min read

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 50s following the discovery of a woman's body at a home in Finglas, Dublin, on Monday morning, according to RTE.ie.

Officers were called to an incident at Melville Terrace shortly after 4.30am and found the woman, who was in her 40s, dead at the scene. The man was taken into custody at a separate location at around 11am in connection with the death.

The property has been cordoned off to allow the Garda Technical Bureau to carry out a forensic examination. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have both been informed, and a post-mortem examination is set to be scheduled.

Why it matters

The case is at an early stage, and gardaí have not said what they believe happened in the hours before the woman was found. The post-mortem will be central to the investigation: its findings will help determine the direction of the inquiry and whether the death is treated as a criminal matter. Until that examination takes place, much about the circumstances remains unclear.

The arrest, coming roughly six and a half hours after the body was discovered, marks the first significant development in a case that began with a pre-dawn emergency call in a residential part of Dublin 11.

Appeal for witnesses and footage

Investigators are asking members of the public who were in the Melville Terrace area of Dublin 11 between midnight and 5am to come forward. They are particularly interested in anyone who was travelling through the area during those hours and may hold video recordings, including dash-cam material, that could assist the inquiry.

RTE.ie reports that anyone with information can contact Finglas garda station on 01 666 7500, ring the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or speak to any garda station.

What is known so far

The sequence of events reported by RTE.ie is as follows: gardaí responded to a report of an incident at Melville Terrace shortly after 4.30am; the body of a woman in her 40s was found at the address; the scene was preserved for forensic examination; and at about 11am a man in his 50s was arrested elsewhere in connection with the death.

No further details about the man, the woman, or the nature of the incident have been released. Gardaí have not named either person, and it is not yet known whether they were known to each other. The results of the post-mortem examination are likely to shape how the investigation proceeds and what information authorities release publicly.

The Garda Technical Bureau's examination of the property is expected to continue while the scene remains sealed off.

What to watch

The scheduling of the post-mortem examination and any update from gardaí on the direction of the inquiry are the next points to watch, along with whether the man being held is questioned further or released.
